1229th -- I Already Am

One of the greatest things that each of us could ever hope to partake in is to be of service to others. Knowing that our life was used to help make someone else's life become better, easier or less burdened, that is when we would have accomplished something that is immeasurable by this world's standards. The Bible declares in Galatians 6:10 “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” When an opportunity opens up before us and we choose not to be a blessing, we are not only robbing the recipient, but we are also robbing ourselves. We are missing the chance to encourage someone, to inspire someone, to lift up someone's spirits and show them the love of God through our life's example. We will be missing the chance to start a ripple effect in the lives of others that will continue on long after we are gone from them. That is why the Bible says as we have therefore opportunity we should do good to ALL men. (Galatians 6:2-4)

We must think of our life as God's visible Angels that are meant to make a difference in this world. What are Angels anyway? They are created beings that are meant to defend, protect, lift up and encourage the weary. They do their work anonymously because we can't physically see them, but when we do our best to help elevate one's life, we will be seen and the recipients will quickly give God thanks that someone cared for their well-being. That is all we should ever strive to do in life; To have people thank God for us. What a blessing! (Luke 22:42-43) (Hebrews 13:2-3)

I pray that you reevaluate how you are being used to be a blessing. May you see the benefits of an encouraging word, of a kind gesture, of a simple smile or a gentle hug. May we be ever mindful of the brevity of life so that each breath that we breathe and every one of our heartbeats will be used to their fullest potential. Don't live a selfish life, don't want only for your well-being because when you are gone from this earth, everything that you worked so hard to attain will be left behind. Only the good works that you did in God's Name will be following you into your eternity. (James 4:13-17) (Revelation 20:11-15)

I hope this message inspires and challenges your heart to be available at every opportunity that comes your way and do your absolute best to make any situation better than it was before you arrived.

I ALREADY AM

When I was a teenager I was in a group of students who took a trip to Pittsburgh. Being a country boy, I found it exciting just being in such a big city. While most of the students headed for the mall, I decided to tour the streets alone. It was almost Christmastime and the store windows were filled with beautiful displays, full of joy and delight. I bought several cinnamon sticks to ward off the chill and spent a while just walking and looking at the sights.

At some point, however, the stores became less and less and the bars became more and more. I realized I had crossed into a not so good section of town. I saw a small bus stop and decided to sit and take a rest before walking back. The bus stop was just in front of a grocery store and before long an old woman in a tattered coat came out. She was carrying two large bags in one hand. Her other hand held a cane that steadied her slow, shaky walk. Her young, dark haired granddaughter clutched her coat as they made their way to the bench. I smiled at them both and we joked and laughed for a bit about how cold it was before the bus pulled up.

When it arrived I picked up the old lady’s bags and carried them up the steps. Then I helped her cherub faced granddaughter up them while her grandma slowly climbed on behind us. I pulled out my last cinnamon stick and gave it to the sweet girl while her grandma smiled her thanks to me. I got off the bus and looked up to the window where the little, curly-haired Child of God was waving goodbye to me. Then I started back to meet the other students a little warmer at heart if not in body. As I was turning the corner, though, a voice called out from an alley. “Hey man! Want to get high?” I smiled without looking over and said, “No thanks. I already am.”

No drug in the world can ever match the high that comes from one kind act, one shared laugh, one second of giving love, or one moment of making God smile. Kindness is Heaven’s high.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

Ephesians 4:29-32 “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.”

Galatians 6:2-4 “Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.”

Romans 15:1-4 “We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification. For even Christ pleased not Himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on Me. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”

Matthew 6:19-21 Jesus says,
“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
