1376th -- Humor Can Make A Serious Difference

We should always have a lighthearted attitude in life. So many times we are tempted to murmur and complain about the trials and tribulations that come our way, but what I have found to be true is that an attitude of faith and trust works a lot better than worry and fear. Looking on the bright side has helped me tremendously because I know that God is still on His Throne and that in His sight all is well. If God is not worried about anything, then I as His child should not be worrisome either. In my life I have always chosen to see the glass as half-full, to see the good in the midst of trouble, to laugh instead of crying and to remain positive no matter how negative the reports may be. When we live our life in this manner I believe God will honor our faithfulness and bring relief our way sooner and in ways that we could have never thought of or imagined ourselves. God is faithful to those who stay faithful to Him. He loves to show Himself strong on behalf of those who depend on His sustenance. In my walk with Him these past 20 years the Lord has never let me down. He has always met my needs, always calmed my heart and always gave me the strength to continue on. As the Lord is no respecter of persons, He is sure to do the same for all those who walk with Him just the same. (Psalm 34:1-4) (Proverbs 3:5-6)

No matter what you may be going through right now I encourage you to face it faith filled. Have a joyful countenance, count your blessings and not your troubles, trust that all things will work together for your good in the end and have a deep and assured knowing that because you stayed in faith you will come forth better, wiser and stronger than you were before that trial or challenge. God will always remember our faithfulness and He will reward us in kind as we read in Psalm 91:14-16 "Because he hath set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known My name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and show him My salvation." (James 1:2-5) (Philippians 1:6)

I hope this message inspires and challenges you to laugh more and worry less, to count your blessings and not your troubles and to trust the Lord in everything that comes your way.

HUMOR CAN MAKE A SERIOUS DIFFERENCE

Thomas Watson, former CEO and chairman of IBM, was famous for putting the word "THINK" on prominent walls of every IBM building. The tradition has carried on into modern times. Not long ago in a restroom at IBM's Watson Center, a supervisor placed a "THINK" sign directly above the sink.

The next day, when he entered the restroom, he glanced at the sign. Just below it and immediately above the soap dispenser, someone had carefully lettered another sign that which read: "THOAP!"

How often do you laugh at work? Actually, humor can make a serious difference. In the workplace, at home, in all areas of life - looking for a reason to laugh is necessary. A sense of humor helps us to get through the dull times, cope with the difficult times, enjoy the good times and manage the scary times.

Case in point: six-year-old Hannah. Hannah encountered one of the most frightening times of her life when she discovered she had cancer. Six years old and she might not live. And if she were to give life a shot, Hannah would have to endure painful, almost endless medical treatments. At one point she lost all her hair due to chemicals pumped into her tiny body. On days when she felt strong enough to get out, she often covered her head.

One day while shopping with her mother, Hannah donned a ball cap with a fake pony tail sewn into the back. Unless one looked closely, she looked as if she had a full head of hair. Before long Hannah noticed a small boy staring at her as if he were trying to figure out what was slightly off about the girl. She tried to ignore him, but he followed her around the store. Finally, she ripped off her cap revealing her shiny, hairless head. In a stern voice she warned, "his is what happens when you don't eat your vegetables!"

I don't know what became of the boy, but I suspect he is now a committed vegetarian. As for Hannah, her sense of humor helped get her through one of life's scariest times.

Like entertainer Bob Hope once said, "I've seen what a good laugh can do. It can transform tears into hope." And sometimes, a little more hope is all we need.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

Hebrews 12:2-3 "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the Joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the Right Hand of the throne of God. For consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds."

Psalm 25:1-5 "Unto Thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in Thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me. Yea, let none that wait on Thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause. Shew me Thy ways, O Lord; teach me Thy paths. Lead me in Thy truth, and teach me: for Thou art the God of my salvation; on Thee do I wait all the day."

Isaiah 45:2-3 "I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron: And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel."

2 Timothy 1:7-9 "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began."

All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
