1406th -- Not Just A Pipe Dream

We should always expect more from our life. So many times because of the daily routines that we go through and because of some setback in the past we believe the falsity that this is our lot in life and it will never get any better than it is right now. I don’t believe that philosophy or way of thinking. I don’t believe God created mankind so that they can merely exist from day to day or from trouble to trouble without becoming better, wiser and stronger so that their future days will be much better and brighter than any of their former beginnings. This is how God looks at mankind from King David’s point of view as we read in Psalm 103:2-5 “Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.” God gives us His goodness without motive or pretense solely because He is good and wishes for us to be good in return to ourselves and to our fellow man. (Ephesians 1:3-5) (Luke 6:31)

No matter what you may be going through and no matter how tough your trials have been you must continue to believe that brighter days are ahead of you. Hope for tomorrow goodness, blessings, encouragement, joy, peace and love. Set your heart for new dreams, new aspirations, new goals, and with a renewed tenacity prepare, put in the effort and reach towards every desire that is within your heart. Don’t stay stagnant in life. Don’t give the enemy the satisfaction of keeping you in bondage, but with a renewed zeal dare to change your life for the better. With our own strength it will always be difficult to achieve change, but when we ask the Lord to go with us, to help us and strengthen us I believe nothing will be impossible to us. Always remember that you and God create a majority and a majority always rules. Be encouraged to look at your life in a better light, a light that is filled with new thoughts, a life that is filled with hope and a life that will always be filled with love. You deserve it. Always remember that! (Jeremiah 33:3) (Ezekiel 36:25-27)

I hope this message inspires and challenges your heart to dream new dreams, to keep new hopes continually at the forefront of your mind knowing that you are meant to live a significant life.

Are your dreams and beautiful ideas just pipe dreams?

According to Webb Garrison in his book Why You Say It, the term “pipe dream” has its origins in the 19th century. The drug opium was imported into Europe from Asia and was widely used in certain literary circles in Britain. Opium was smoked in a pipe and, once under the influence, people had hallucinations that were referred to as pipe dreams. So today, an unrealistic or impractical idea may be quickly discounted as a pipe dream because it is so far out there that it could never come to pass.

But not all seemingly impossible or far-fetched ideas are merely pipe dreams. A case in point is the dream millionaire Eugene Lang gave to high school students in the impoverished neighborhood in which he was raised. Addressing a class of eighth-graders in the South Bronx, Lang threw away his prepared speech. The empty eyes of the students in attendance told him they were not interested in his “motivational” talk. Their neighborhood had become a battlefield of poverty, drugs and gangs, and a breeding ground of despair. About 80% of them would not complete high school. Few would ever leave the neighborhood. Fewer still would climb out of poverty. That is why Mr. Lang tossed aside his speech. The students didn't need a speech; they needed a dream.

Then, the words that came from Eugene Lang's mouth may have even astonished him! “If you graduate from high school,” he told the youth, “I will send you to college.” Send you to college!

For the next four years he worked with the school and kept the dream alive. And the results were phenomenal: all but two of the 60 teenagers finished high school! True to his word, he sent them to college. “He gave us hope,” one student said, no doubt speaking for the majority. Another one of the students, upon meeting Lang later, said to him, “Mr. Lang, we did the impossible.”

Not every seemingly unrealistic idea is a pipe dream. When that beautiful dream is combined with hard work and great expectation, then the impossible can be achieved. For when you believe enough in that magnificent dream, most anything can happen.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

1 Peter 5:8-9 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.”

Psalm 56:9-11 “When I cry unto Thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me. In God will I praise His word: in the LORD will I praise His word. In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.”

James 1:2-5 “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”

Deuteronomy 30:19 “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.”

Isaiah 26:3-4 “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee. Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.”

Isaiah 54:17 “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.”

All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
