1446th -- Moonpie

There are moments in life when we feel worthless because of some difficulty that we went through in times past and instead of letting go of those feelings of doubt and uncertainty we embrace that negativity and stagnate our life in the process. What we should always remember and keep in mind is that our past does not define our future. When we confess our sins and shortfalls to the Lord and ask for His forgiveness and restoration, the Bible says God wipes our slate clean and create within us a new heart, with new dreams, new aspirations, new hopes and new desires. We don’t have to feel worthless, we don’t have to feel ashamed, and we don’t have to keep our life stagnant because the God who created the universe is able to do a new thing with us. God says in Isaiah 43:18-19 “Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” God is able to do the impossible so why do we think that our life isn’t fixable when we make mistakes? This Scripture tells us that God wants everyone to look forward with hope and not backwards with regret. (Romans 10:9-11) (2 Peter 3:9)

No matter how lost, empty or condemned you may feel right now I want you to know that there is a new beginning that is possible with God. As long as you have breath within your being then it’s not too late for you to begin again, to dream again, to reach for victory again and to stand atop the mountain having learned the lessons, triumphed over the obstacles and became all that God has created you to be. The Bible declares in Psalm 138:6-8 “Though the Lord be high, yet hath He respect unto the lowly: but the proud He knoweth afar off. Though I walk in the midst of trouble, Thou wilt revive me: Thou shalt stretch forth Thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and Thy right hand shall save me. The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: Thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever...” Be encouraged to get your joy back, to have a positive outlook on life and to see the good that is before you. Focusing on our many blessings helps us to see that life is worth living and that our future blessed, bright and beautiful. Believe it for yourself and receive it by faith today. (Nehemiah 8:10) (Hebrews 11:6)

I hope this message inspires and challenges your heart to not let the difficult times define your life, but use what you learned to better your life today and in your tomorrow’s to come.

MOONPIE

Over the last few months I have once again been reminded of two things: God has a sense of humor and God knows how to heal a hurting heart. It all started a few weeks after the death of our beloved dog, Harley. At the time I was in mourning and had no intention of adding yet another pet to a house still crowded with 4 dogs, 3 cats, and a turtle with a bad attitude. Little was I to know, however, that God had other plans. That very day my daughter came home from her walk carrying a small, sad-eyed bag of bones in her arms. She had rescued the poor, limping puppy after it had almost gotten hit by a car.

I knew that I would have to take this little dog into my home at least while we looked for her owners. I was worried too that she might not be easily accepted by our other dogs. Instead she quickly and happily took over the entire house. With a curious combination of cuteness and rambunctiousness she made us all laugh and love her at the same time. Her leg quickly healed. She put on weight and soaked up the love and attention we gave her like a sponge. Soon she was sharing my daughter’s bed, bringing out the playful puppy in our older dogs, chewing on my shoes, and touching my soul as well. She showed me something we all should know: the best way to heal is to open your heart and love again.

No one ever claimed this 4 legged angel so she joyfully made her home in our house and in our hearts. My daughter named her “Moonpie” because she was as sweet as the dessert. She was also ornery, full of energy and more than a handful at times. Still, I thank God for bringing her into our lives. He knew just what we needed and just when we needed it. Thanks to little "Moony" our hearts have been healed and our days are even more full of love. And I am sure too that when we laugh at her antics, God and the angels are laughing with us.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

Hebrews 12:2-3 “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the Joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the Right Hand of the throne of God. For consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.”

Psalm 25:1-5 “Unto Thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in Thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me. Yea, let none that wait on Thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause. Shew me Thy ways, O Lord; teach me Thy paths. Lead me in Thy truth, and teach me: for Thou art the God of my salvation; on Thee do I wait all the day.”

Isaiah 45:2-3 “I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron: And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.”

2 Timothy 1:7-9 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.”

All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
