1474th -- Looking In The Rearview Mirror

We should always have a positive outlook on our life seeing the good, focused on our blessings and being thankful for God’s provision and sustenance that is promised to be with us as long as we trust in Him. Having a positive outlook means that we are looking forward to the good things ahead of us that will add to our life, that will make our life better and that will also encourage and inspire us to stand in our authority as children of the Most High God. God calls us kings and priests meant to be blessed in our endeavors, equipped to be triumphant and destined to stand in victory, but if our mindset is wrong, then we can not and will not become all that God has created us to be. That is why our thoughts, our words and our actions must all line up according to God’s promises in order for us to walk towards victory, triumph over the obstacles with the gifts, talents and abilities that God has equipped us with and finally stand atop the mountain giving praise and thanks to the Lord for gracing us with such undeserved love and mercy. (Philippians 4:11-13) (Proverbs 16:18-23)

Another thing we have to remember and keep in mind is that we can’t walk towards the victory ahead of us looking back at what is behind us. We have to forget about our past mistakes, shortfalls, heart aches and disappointments. We can’t live in the past and expect a bright, beautiful and blessed future because our focus on what was will greatly hinder what can be. That is why the Bible declares in Philippians 3:13 “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” May we always look forward to the blessings ahead of us staying encouraged, staying inspired and hoping for God to bring good our way so that we may be blessed enough to be a blessing to our fellow man. (James 1:22-25) (1 Peter 3:10-12)

When our life is said and done we will only be remembered for the good that we brought to this world. The joy we shared, the memories we created, the hope we imparted, the encouragement we sowed and the love we gave will be our lasting legacy and proof that we lived our life well. May we keep this thought in our memory so that when we deal with our fellow man we will remember to do good to them so that our life’s memory will never leave their hearts and minds. (Luke 6:27-36)

I hope this message inspires and challenges your heart to always look forward in your life focused on the blessings and goodness that are promised to come your way.

LOOKING IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR

When I was a young boy my family would always make a Summer trip out of state to visit my Grandma and Aunt. It was a long drive over curvy, mountainous roads. It often took up to eight hours to get there. This was before the age of iPods and DVD players too. My Dad didn’t care much for the rock music the radio stations played in the nineteen seventies either, so the trip was a quiet one. Stuffed in the back seat of the family sedan with my two brothers, I only had one thing that I could do and that was look out the window.

A window seat was best for scenery watching, but being the youngest and the smallest I was always stuck in the middle. That left gazing over my brothers’ shoulders or looking through the rearview mirror at what we had just passed. The second option, however, could never be done for long. With mountain roads I never knew when the next curve was coming up and if what I was looking at didn’t match what my body was feeling then I was carsick in minutes.

After a few times of my stomach turning flip flops I learned my lesson and kept my eyes on the road ahead. That way I could gaze in wonder at the golden light of the sun shining down on the green leafs of the trees as we drove by them. That way I could enjoy seeing the deer peacefully eating grass along the side of the road. That way I could delight in what was coming next instead of being sick over what was already left behind.

Those long trips taught me that you can’t live your life always looking in the rearview mirror. If you want to enjoy the beautiful moments of today then you have to see them as they happen. God doesn’t want us to live in the past. He wants us to embrace the joy that each new day brings. He wants us to realize the preciousness of every second and use them all to love Him, ourselves, and others. Keep your eyes on the road ahead then and trust God to lead you Home.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

Psalm 103:10-12 “He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward them that fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath He removed our transgressions from us.”

Proverbs 17:22 “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.”

Hebrews 13:5-6 “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.”

Psalm 37:3-6 “Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass. And He shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.”

Philippians 4:8-9 “Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.”

All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
