1514th -- Message On Giving Selflessly

I am a firm believer that givers gain because those who are selfless become the most blessed in the end. Why is that? It is because God’s laws work whether we believe in them or not. The sun will shine every morning and the moon will illuminate the earth every night. God has set these standards to work since the very beginning when He created this world. In Genesis 8:22 God declares “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” The laws of seedtime and harvest will never cease to exist so that means every good deed that we do will be rewarded in like manner and every blessing that we shared will return back to us a bountiful harvest. (2 Corinthians 9:6-12) (Luke 6:30-33)

I recently heard of a wonderful story about a man who overheard a conversation about a woman that was battling stage IV liver disease and without a match soon, to have a liver transplant, the woman would die within a few months. This man had no knowledge of the woman, no relationship with her or her family, but still felt the obligation to try to help if he was able to. He thought if he was in that situation, he would want someone to help him or his family member just the same. The man found out where the woman was being treated and soon got in touch with the hospital and asked if he could be tested to see if he was a match. They scheduled an appointment and the man went and gave the samples that were required for testing and waited to hear back for the results. The woman also heard about this man, but by this time she had very little hope as all of her friends and family had been tested and none of them were a match.

When the results came back and the man was told that he was a perfect match, he and the woman met over lunch and they talked about all that had happened in amazement and discussed what the process was going to be like for their surgery. Not long after the lunch, they checked into the University of Illinois hospital and this man gave a little more than half of his liver to this stranger so that she may live and not die. The surgery was a success for both of them and the woman recovered well without any complications. The two continued to stay in touch after the surgery and soon found themselves falling in love with each other. About a year and a half after the surgery this man and this woman were married and the miracle of giving and receiving had completed its circle. When this man decided to give half of his liver to a stranger, he did not know in that moment that he was saving his own wife.

I believe God works in ways that we can never fully understand and all that He is looking for in us is to have a willing heart to follow His leading and do what He lays on our hearts to do. We may not understand why in that moment, but we should always be obedient to follow His leading and trust that in the end everything will work together for good because we love God and we are called according to His purposes. Never think that your good works are all in vain because whether we see fruit from it or not, our good deeds will fulfill their purpose. (Romans 8:28) (Isaiah 55:11-12)

May we always be sensitive to the still small voice of the Holy Spirit and be obedient to His voice following where He leads us so that our life may be significant upon this Earth. Whether we help one soul to become better or one million souls to rise higher, we should do so with all of our hearts knowing that God will be glorified in our obedience. That’s what life is all about; loving God with all of our heart, mind and soul, and loving our neighbor as we love ourselves. (1 Kings 19:12-13) (Matthew 22:37-40)

The Lord Jesus declares in John 15:12-13
“This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Be encouraged to see with refreshed eyes the blessings that come forth when we offer our help to make a tough situation just a little bit better. We don’t know what good may come from our intervention, but that’s not the important part because God is the One who works things out for good in ways that we can’t fully comprehend. Our job is to be obedient and do our good works by faith and allow God to work miracles because we allowed our vessel to be used for His eternal purposes. (Isaiah 6:8)

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

1 John 4:7-11 “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.”

Galatians 6:9-10 “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”

Romans 12:15-18 “Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.”

Colossians 3:23-25 “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.”
