288th -- Daddy's Prayers

The power that each believer possesses in prayer is immeasurable. The
Bible tells us that we are to continually rejoice and pray without ceasing.
We are to have the Joy of the Lord in our hearts and know that God hears
and will answer our prayers. God knows the power of prayer and in His Word
we are commanded to be in communication with Him. We should never believe
the lie that prayer doesn't change things. The Lord Jesus Christ spent
many hours alone in prayer because He knew The Father heard His prayer and
would answer the Lord Jesus' requests. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-17)

If the devil is telling you that prayer doesn't work, I encourage you to
dig your heels in and don't be moved or tempted to give up in seeking the
Lord in prayer. We know through God's word that the devil is a liar and the
father of lies and so encourage yourself and know that heaven is ready to
move on your behalf when you stay faithful and diligent in prayer. (John 8:44)

This message encouraged my heart to continue to pray for my family and
friends that haven't yet opened their hearts to the Lord Jesus Christ. I
hope this message encourages you as well to continually pray for your needs
as well as the salvation of those around you because prayer really does work.

DADDY'S PRAYERS

When I was growing up along the banks of the Mississippi River in a house
at the top of Hill Street, the sound of my daddy praying was as common as
the sound of Mother frying eggs. Like Daniel of old, Daddy prayed every
day rain or shine, sleet or snow, hail or high water.

Although nobody ever threw Daddy in a den of lions for praying, there were
many mornings when I wanted to. How dare he disturb me before daylight!
Didn't he know how sleepy I was? Didn't he care?

And why on earth did he shut the door behind him when he prayed? He prayed
loud enough to wake every rooster in Warren County. Why bother closing any
doors? Why didn't he just go out on the front porch and pray, for goodness
sake? The neighbors could hear him anyhow.

And why did he have to call my name in prayer? What if I didn't want to be
saved? What if I wanted to grow up and be the biggest sinner the South had
ever seen? Couldn't he just leave me out of it and pray for something else
like a bigger house in which I could have my own room with soundproof walls?

James 5:16 says, "The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective."

Indeed, it is.

Today, I'm a Christian, sending up prayers for a daughter of my own. Daddy
just turned 75, and the only thing that has changed about his praying is
that my daughter's name has been added to his list.

How rich I am! How rich she is! How I'll miss the sound of Daddy praying
when the good Lord lets him rest.

Be encouraged and know that your prayers are never in vain. The Lord is
omnipresent and hears every prayer that is prayed and in His own time will
be faithful to answer the request of our hearts. Don't get discouraged
when you don't see God answer right away, but you stay faithful and strong
and know that God's timing is perfect and true. (Isaiah 55:8-9) (Jeremiah 29:12)

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

Psalm 5:1-3 "Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation. Hearken
unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto Thee will I pray.
My voice shalt Thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I
direct my prayer unto Thee, and will look up."

Isaiah 55:8-9 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways
my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so
are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts."

1 Thessalonians 5:16-21 "Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every
thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning
you. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things;
hold fast that which is good."

Jeremiah 29:12-14 "Then shall ye call upon Me, and ye shall go and pray
unto Me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek Me, and find Me,
when ye shall search for Me with all your heart. And I will be found of
you, saith the LORD…"

All scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
