The Lord has placed special gifts and talents within each of us and has
given every believer the promise that they can accomplish great things
throughout their life. We are to recognize how special we are and know
that in each of us is instilled an unfulfilled destiny that is waiting to
take shape and accomplish that which God Almighty has intended. If you are
feeling discouraged because you think you have nothing special to offer
this world, be encouraged and know that God has great things instilled
within your spirit that has yet to be realized and accomplished. Recognize
that you are special and have many gifts within you that need to get out of
your heart and into this world where you can make a positive impact on humanity.
I hope you'll be encouraged by this story that shows how one person's idea
and persistent heart impacted our world and helped save thousands of lives.
THE WOMAN WHO DREW THE LINE
You've probably never heard of Dr. June McCarroll, but she's a woman who
truly left her mark on the world. Born in Nebraska, she was a general
practitioner who lived in California. Interestingly enough, her claim to
fame lies outside the world of medicine. An accident was the trigger that
got her thinking about making our highways safer. Her car was sideswiped,
and she determined to do something about cars that crowded others off the road.
Driving on a road that bulged down its center, Dr. McCarroll noticed that
the bulge helped to keep motorists on their own side of the road. That gave
her an idea. She tried persuading the town council to "paint a line down
the middle of the road" to set an example and "lead the nation in public safety."
She got the typical bureaucratic response. However, she was someone who
would not take no for an answer. So she took her idea to the local women's
club. The vote was unanimous in support of the project. Still, she
continued to face bureaucratic stubbornness for seven long years before her
idea was implemented.
In 1924 the California Highway Commission agreed to experiment with a
centerline on two sections of Route 99. Accidents on both test stretches
diminished dramatically, and soon the entire state boasted McCarroll lines
on its highways. Most of the world has since followed suit.
By Zig Ziglar
If God has placed a great idea within your heart and you're not receiving
the encouragement to move forward, take this message as motivation and
inspiration and know that you and God are a majority and nothing by any
means can stop you. Believe in yourself just as God believes in you and
see yourself achieving the goals that are within you. (Jeremiah 29:11-13)
The Bible tells us to write our vision down and make it available to read
at a glance. I believe the Lord wants us to continually remember what He
has placed within our hearts so that we'll focus on bringing to pass the
special idea or gift that has yet to be realized. Keep your vision
continually before you and remember to keep a positive attitude in the
midst of your struggle. Your faithfulness is sure to be rewarded with
extraordinary results. (Habakkuk 2:2-4)
Read and meditate on these scriptures:
Proverbs 3:5-8 "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto
thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall
direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart
from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones."
Deuteronomy 8:17-18 "And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of
mine hand hath gotten me this wealth. But thou shalt remember the LORD thy
God: for it is He that giveth thee power to get wealth, that He may
establish His covenant which He sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day."
Proverbs 2:1-6 "My son, if thou wilt receive My words, and hide My
commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and
apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge,
and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver,
and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the
fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD giveth
wisdom: out of His mouth cometh knowledge and understanding."
Psalm 34:8-10 "O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man
that trusteth in Him. O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want
to them that fear Him. The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they
that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing."
