65th -- 'Twas The Night Jesus Came

It is very important for us to always keep in mind that this time on earth
is only a moment when compared to eternity. I understand that it is
important that we live life to it's fullest and enjoy every bit of living
here on earth, but still we need to always have the proper perspective and
think about eternity. The Bible declares in 2 Corinthians 4:18 "While we
look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not
seen: for the things which are seen are temporary; but the things which are
not seen are eternal." Our bodies will eventually die and return to the
dust of the earth, but your spirit will never die. Always try to keep in
mind that you have an eternal spirit which is the real you that will live
forever.

This is a good poem that reminded me that we do not know the day nor the
hour when Jesus is coming back, but we need to be ready with expectation
as if today were our last. I hope you will be both blessed and encouraged
by this poem.

'TWAS THE NIGHT JESUS CAME

'Twas the night Jesus came and all through the house,
not a person was praying, not one in the house.
The Bible was left on the shelf without care,
for no one thought Jesus would come there.

The children were dressing to crawl into bed,
not once ever kneeling or bowing their head.
And Mom in the rocking chair with baby on her lap,
was watching the Late Show as I took a nap.

When out of the east there rose such a clatter,
I sprang to my feet to see what's the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
tore open the shutters and lifted the sash.

When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but Angels proclaiming that Jesus was here.
The light of His face made me cover my head,
it was Jesus returning just like He'd said.
And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth,
I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.

In the Book of Life that in which he held in his hand,
was written the name of every saved man.
He spoke not a word as he searched for my name,
when He said "it is not here" I hung my head in shame.

The peoples whose names had been written with love,
He gathered to take to His Father above.
With those who were ready He rose without a sound,
while all the others were left standing around.

I fell to my knees but it was too late,
I waited to long and thus sealed my fate.
I stood and I cried as they rose out of sight,
Oh, if only I'd know that this was the night.

In the words of this poem the meaning is clear,
The coming of Jesus is now drawing near.
There's only one life and when comes the last call,
We'll find out that the Bible was true after all…

By Jeffrey Cummings

While I was reading this poem, I remembered the time when the Lord
spoke to my heart concerning eternity.

I enjoy watching the sport of boxing and I sometimes watch the old fights
of the 1920's and 1930's. It seems as though even watching something that
has no real spiritual connection, God can use and teach a lesson on. I
was watching a fight once and just out of blue, the spirit of the Lord
began to speak to my heart. The Lord said "Dwayne look at all of those
people sitting in the audience. They are watching that match with great
enthusiasm but are not thinking about their eternity." I began to think
about this over and over again and soon enough I forgot about the boxing
match and focused on the audience. I watched the audience and knew for
sure that mostly all of them have died since it was such a long time ago
and they were all already grown men. While I was thinking about all of
this I remembered the scripture found in James 4:14 "For what is your
life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes
away." How true that was in this case.

Even though life may seem to be long; when we think back, years fly by
that seem like only weeks or months ago. Let us be more mindful of our
spirit that's eternal and less about our physical being which is but for a
moment.

I encourage you to think about your eternal spirit and where you will
spend eternity.

If you do not know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, pray and ask
Him to come into your heart and life. He promised to wash away every sin
and make you a new creature in Christ.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new
creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

Matthew 24:44 Jesus says "Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour
as ye think not the Son of man cometh."

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven
with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God:
and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and
remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the
Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort
one another with these words."

John 11:25-26 Jesus says "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that
believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever
liveth and believeth in me shall never die…"

All scriptures can be found in the King James Version.
