89th -- The Precious Book

There is so much wisdom in the Word of God and one scripture of the
thousands available can literally change your life. I love to read and
meditate on the Bible because it makes me much more in tune with the Lord
and sensitive to His leading. The Bible declares in Romans 10:17 …faith
cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. If we are to be
successful in the things of God, we need to be equipped with His Word, so
when problems do arise we will be ready to handle any situation because of
our confidence in God and His everlasting Word.

I received this poem from one of our members and thought it had a good
message to share. It puts into words how great and precious God's Word is
and the power that it has to changes lives. I hope you enjoy this poem as
much as I have.

THE PRECIOUS BOOK

Though the cover is worn
And the pages are torn
And places bear traces of tears,
Yet more precious than gold
Is the Book worn and old,
That can shatter and scatter my fears.

When I prayerfully look
In the precious old Book,
As my eyes scan the pages I see,
any tokens of love
From the Father above,
Who is nearest and dearest to me.

This old Book is my guide,
'Tis a friend by my side,
It will lighten and brighten my way;
And each promise I find
Soothes and gladdens my mind
As I read it and heed it each day.

Oh, wonderful, wonder Word of the Lord,
True wisdom its pages unfold,
And though we may read it a thousand times o'er,
They never, no never grow old.

Each line hath a treasure, each treasure a pearl,
That all, if they will, may secure;
And we know that when time and the world pass away,
God's Word shall forever endure.

God's Word is like a deep, deep mine,
And jewels rich and rare
Are hidden in its mighty depths
For every searcher there.

Psalm 119:11 declares "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not
sin against thee." Be encouraged and know the closer you get to the Lord
and His Word, the more you'll be equipped to fight off any temptation the
enemy may bring your way. If you are having problems in your life, there
is no better solution than God's Word. In it there is wisdom and peace
that is incomprehensible.

I encourage you to make a special reading time if you haven't already and
open your heart and allow the Holy Spirit to teach and guide you as you
read and meditate. I love to read from my King James Bible, but it may
be hard for some to understand. If you are not able to read the King
James, there are other versions that are easier to understand. There are
also websites you can visit to read and listen to the Bible online. My
favorite is Biblegateway.com; which has available a vast array of language
translations and Bible versions.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

John 1:1-3 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and
the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were
made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made."

Joshua 1:8 "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but
thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do
according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way
prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success."

Revelation 3:8 Jesus says "I know thy works: behold, I have set before
thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little
strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name."

Psalm 34:8-10 "O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man
that trusteth in him. O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want
to them that fear him. The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but
they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing."

All scriptures can be found in the King James Version.

A child was asked what the Bible stood for and she responded, "Basic
instructions before leaving earth." Keep that in mind the next time you
feel troubled. Go to the instruction manual that God has supplied for
each of us.
