959th -- Traveling Light

We should always remember and keep in perspective that this life is
temporary. As long as it may seem right now while we are going through
it, it will pass us by all too quickly and we will wonder where the time
went. Life when compared to eternity is like a drop of water in an ocean.
The brevity of life should make us more focused on our eternity and on
building goodwill that will bring us rewards when we get to our home in
heaven. Many times we focus so much on attaining physical possessions and
building our wealth on the Earth while the lack any thought of building
treasures in heaven. The Lord Jesus knew of this wrongful thinking that
many people had even in His day and declared in Matthew 6:19-21 “Lay not
up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt,
and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves
treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where
thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there
will your heart be also.” What our eyes and mind is focused on is where
our heart and soul will move towards.

Let us remember to build up our treasures in heaven. Let us do good
works, help others in need, be someone's shoulder to lean upon, encourage
and lift up those who are feeling low and simply be an example of the same
love that Christ showed when He was on the Earth. We are His ambassadors
and He calls us to move in His stead teaching His principles and leading
others to His saving grace. We who have given our lives to the Lord
should strive to live, breathe and act in a manner that is pleasing to Him
so that when we see the Lord on that glorious day, we will have been proud
of how we carried ourselves while we were alive on the Earth. Be
encouraged to lead by example, live with integrity and help to make better
every life that comes across your path. Doing so will ensure treasures
untold prepared for you in heaven.

I hope this message inspires and challenges your heart to think more on
your spiritual life. The body may die one day, but our spirit will live
on forever.

TRAVELING LIGHT

There is a picture of me in an old scrapbook. It was taken by my Mom a
quarter of a century ago. I was taking Summer classes in college and was
moving into an apartment with 3 other boys to save money. In the
photograph I was carrying two suitcases loaded with everything I was going
to need to get me through the 6 weeks of classes. It is the last time I
can remember ever traveling that light.

Since then my possessions have grown. Most of them like my furniture and
appliances are useful and practical. Many of them are gifts given to me
with love that bring me joy just to look at and hold. Still, there are
times when I feel weighed down by all of them. I know if I ever move again
I will need two trucks rather than two suitcases.

One thought, however, brings me comfort. It is the knowledge that when I
make my final journey from this world I won’t be taking any of those
things with me. The only things I will take with me will be what I have
packed in the suitcase of my soul. I will be carrying with me every kind
thing I ever did, every loving thought I ever shared, and every bit of
laughter I ever brought into this world. I will be carrying all the joy I
created, all the goodness I gave to others, and all the love I was able to
choose and share. These things won’t be weighing me down either. They
instead will be lifting me up. In fact, I will be traveling lighter than
ever before on the wings of God’s glorious love.

As you get ready for your own final trip then make sure that you are
traveling light. Make sure that the stuff in your home always takes second
place to the love in your heart. Make sure that your greatest possession
is your own soul. And make sure that when you unpack it in Heaven God and
all His angels will smile.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

1 Timothy 6:10-12 “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which
while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced
themselves through with many sorrows. But thou, O man of God, flee these
things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience,
meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life,
whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before
many witnesses.”

Hebrews 13:5-6 “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be
content with such things as ye have: for He hath said, I will never leave
thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper,
and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.”

Psalm 37:16-19 “A little that a righteous man hath is better than the
riches of many wicked. For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the
LORD upholdeth the righteous. The LORD knoweth the days of the upright:
and their inheritance shall be for ever. They shall not be ashamed in the
evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.”

Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever
things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if
there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
