232nd -- Message On Forgetting The Past

I hope you are doing well and in the best of health. The Lord has spoken
to my heart to write a message on forgetting the sins of the past and to
reach forth towards our future with a renewed determination and unmoved
steadfastness. I hope this message will speak to your heart if you have
trouble forgetting your past sins, shortfalls and heartaches. We are all
able to change and I pray this message will get deep in your spirit where
God's word can take affect and change you if you're having trouble in this
area of life.

The Apostle Paul says in Philippians 3:13 "...one thing I do, forgetting
those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which
are ahead." If we are expecting to live an abundant overcoming life of
Victory, then we need to get the revelation that we are to forget our past
sins and shortfalls and reach forth to the blessings ahead of us. Keeping
one foot in the past and the other in the future will keep our life
stagnant and in turn unable to make any progress in receiving the rewards
that are ahead of each of us. Concerning forgetting past sins, God says in
Isaiah 43:25, "I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My
own sake; And I will not remember your sins." If God forgives and forgets,
then we need to do the same and not allow the enemy to keep us in the
bondage of condemnation. (Proverbs 4:25-27) (Psalm 103:12)

Another thing that many of us deal with is forgetting the hurt that someone
else put us through. I've heard people say, "I forgave that person for what
they did to me, but I could never forget." It is important that we realize
that forgiving and forgetting go hand in hand. If we forgave them, then we
should also forget what it was that they did. There's no point in bringing
up past hurts and that is exactly what we do when we refuse to forget. Each
of us is guilty of sin and when we refuse to forget what someone else did
to us, we are saying to God that we are more righteous than Him because God
can forgive and forget, but we can not. (Romans 3:23) (Matthew 6:14-15)

The Lord Jesus Christ is our example and on the Cross He said, "Father
forgive them for they know not what they do." Jesus forgave those that
crucified Him and yet when someone simply offends us in the least amount
we hold a grudge and try our best to not be around that person. We cannot
allow pride to keep us from reaching forth as the apostle Paul proclaimed.
Life is short and we only have this short time on this earth to be all that
God has in mind for us to be. I encourage you to reach your full potential
and not allow the enemy to keep you from forgiving, forgetting and freely
showing the Love of God towards those who hurt you. (Luke 23:34) (1 John 4:11)

I don't mean to sound harsh when I say this, but only you can keep you from
moving forward. It is in your hands to forget the past and reach forth
with a renewed vigor towards the future. Nobody can hold you back except
yourself. When that day comes when you stand before God Almighty, excuses
will not hold any ground before the Lord. We will not be able to blame
someone else because we didn't have a forgiving and forgetful heart. It is
our choice whether we reach the goals ahead of us or refuse and simply live
in mediocrity. I challenge you to reach your goals and be loving to the
unlovable, be forgiving to the unforgivable, and forget the unforgettable.
It may not be easy, but we must reach for the freedom that is attained when
we forgive those that have transgressed against us. (2 John 8-9)

I encourage you to be God's hands and feet and proudly show the Jesus that
lives within you. Be an example to your friends, your family and to your
work mates. Our actions speak louder than words and whether we realize it
or not, people are always watching us to see if we will do that which is
right. I encourage you again to forgive and forget the hurt that someone
else placed upon you and take rest in the comforting hands of the Lord.
(John 14:15-17) (Hebrews 12:1-3) (2 Corinthians 1:3-6)

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

Colossians 3:12-15 "Since God chose you to be the holy people whom He loves
you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility,
gentleness, and patience. You must make allowance for each other's faults
and forgive the person who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so
you must forgive others. And the most important piece of clothing you must
wear is love. Love is what binds us all together in perfect harmony. And
let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts…"

Psalm 103:8-13 "The Lord is merciful and gracious; He is slow to get angry
and full of unfailing love. He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain
angry forever. He has not punished us for all our sins, nor does He deal
with us as we deserve. For His unfailing love toward those who fear Him is
as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our
rebellious acts as far away from us as the east is from the west. The Lord
is like a father to His children, tender and compassionate to those who
fear Him."

1 John 4:10-12 "This is real love. It is not that we loved God, but that
He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. Dear
friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other.
No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and
His love has been brought to full expression through us."
